The Kasilof River is one of Alaskas best kept secrets. Often referred to by local Alaskans as the “little brother of the Kenai River.” The Kasilof River fishing provides some of the best King Salmon and Steelhead opportunities on the Kenai Peninsula.

The Alaska Fishing Season begins on the Kasilof River, drifting through various Salmon holes, hunting for that prized King Salmon. The serenity of the Kasilof River and also the exceptional calmness, allows for one of the most unique fishing trips in Alaska. Furthermore, the Kasilof River is a “drift only’ fishery, hence no motors are allowed on the Kasilof River, thus delivering the tranquil Kasilof River fishing experience. This is of course until that Kasilof River King Salmon takes your bait and the fight is on!

The Kasilof River is located just off the Sterling highway 160 miles south from Anchorage International Airport. Usually, it takes 3 to 3.5 hours depending on road construction. The drive from Anchorage starting on the Turnagain Highway was voted #1 scenic drive in Alaska

The Kasilof River is just 12 miles south from Soldotna Bridge and the Kenai River. Soldotna is typically where our clients stay, this makes just a 12-15 minute drive in the morning for your fishing trip.

Don’t worry, we get this all the time! Kasilof is pronounced (kuh-see-loff) the name Kasilof was given by early Russian settlers in the area. Formally known as the “Kassilof” but later the spelling was changed to Kasilof around 1900.

The Kasilof River does have bank fishing access which is found at the Crooked Creek State Recreation Park. Cost is $5.00 per vehicle to park for the day and $20.00 for Kasilof River camping spots. This area is heavily used in June & July but can offer fun road accessible Salmon fishing. You will notice a lot of the Salmon travel on the other side of the river, which you need a boat and guide to access.
